Based in Raubling in Bavaria’s alpine area, side by side is the trade name for a design collection developed in 2001 by Caritas Wendelstein Werkstatten in cooperation with a project manager, graphic design agency and more than 15 freelance designers.
Side by Side employs 120 disabled staff in various departments including 80 of whom work in the wood workshop.
The workshops are run by the non-profit Caritasverband München and Freising e.V. Their workshops operate under a government mandate and offer people with intellectual, physical, psychological and multiple disabilities employment.
Wages are generated by the products sold by the workshop meaning the successful side of marketing their products generates and secures their wages.
